Measurements

Unfortunately there is no single measurement system that is used throughout the world; different countries practice seperate systems (such as Imperial, US Standard, and Metric), and it’s worth nothing that there are also different ways of measuring ingredients. Dry ingredients in some countries (ie. U.K.) are measured by weight (e.g. ounces, pounds, grams, kilograms), and in others (ie. U.S.) by volume (e.g. tablespoons, cups, milliliters, liters).

Some of the measuring tools used in these countries even differ in size (1 cup has the following equivalents: U.S. = 237 milliliters, U.K. = 284 milliliters, and Australia = 250 milliliters.), so a few recipes can be even more confusing. Most of the recipes on COOKITSIMPLY.COM specify more than one unit for each amount of an ingredient, which you can use as a comparison to make sure you have the right amount.

Choose a food group (ie. almonds) to see a list of products (ie. almonds, chopped) with the cup equivalents in grams (g) for various cup amounts. The lists also include the equivalents in ounces (oz).

Liquid Measurements

Liquid units are somewhat less complicated than standard food units, but similar from the outset. Ounces and millilitres (the liquid equivalent of grams) are the most common, although cups can also be used.

Spoons are frequently used for small amounts; shots, jiggers, splashes, dashes, measures and the like are more noticeably used for the concoction of drinks and cocktails.
