Goulash Soup with Potatoes (Gulaschsuppe)

  • 4 oz streaky bacon
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 8 oz braising steak diced
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp marjoram
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 1/3 cup cornflour
  • 2 pt beef stock
  • 2 large potatoes cooked and diced


  • Chop bacon and gently fry with the chopped onion.
  • When a nice golden colour, add the diced steak and allow to brown all over, stirring constantly.
  • Gradually stir in the paprika, marjoram and crushed garlic.
  • Take off the heat and add the flour.
  • Stir thoroughly and then slowly stir in the stock.
  • Return to heat and bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Cook on simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Now add the diced potato and heat through.
