Toffee Apples
These homemade toffee apples are a delicious and simple treat for this time of year.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Demerara raw sugar
- 2 oz butter
- 2 tsp vinegar
- 5 floz water
- 1 tbsp golden syrup substitute light corn syrup
- 6 medium apples
- 6 wooden sticks
Instructions
- Gently heat the sugar, butter, vinegar, water and syrup in a heavy-based saucepan until the sugar has dissolved and the butter has melted.
- Boil rapidly for 5 minutes until a drop of the mixture placed in cold water separates into threads which become hard but not brittle.
- Wash and dry the apples and impale on the sticks.
- Dip each one into the toffee mixture, swirling it around, so that the excess toffee drips back into the saucepan.
- Leave to cool on a buttered baking sheet.
