Fada Ni Khichdi (Green gram and broken wheat with vegetables)
Ingredients
- 7 oz Split green gram dhuli moong daf, washed, soaked for 15 minutes
- 3/4 cup Broken wheat dalia, washed, soaked for 15 minutes
for the tempering:
- 3 tbsp Ghee
- 1 Cinnamon dalchini, 1 inch stick
- 3 Cloves laung
- 1 tsp Cumin jeera seeds
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida hing
- 1 cup Green peas hara matar
- 1 cup Potatoes diced
- 1 cup Cauliflower phool gobhi, florets
- 1 cup Onions diced
- 1 tbsp Green chilli-ginger adrak paste
- 1/2 tsp Black peppercorns sabut kali mirch
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric haldi powder
- Salt to taste
- 16 floz Water hot
Instructions
- For the tempering, heat the ghee in a pressure cooker; add cinnamon stick, cloves, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Saute for 30 seconds.
- Add green peas, potatoes, cauliflower, onions, and green chilli-ginger paste. Saute for a few minutes, or till the vegetables are a little tender.
- Add the drained split green gram and broken wheat, black peppercorns, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir-fry for 4 - 5 minutes.
- Add hot water and pressure cook for 3 - 4 whistles.
- Allow the steam to escape, then open the pressure cooker carefully.
- Stir vigorously, adding a little more hot water, if required, so that the split green gram and the broken wheat mix well. Adjust seasoning, if required.
- Serve hot.
