Beef and Onions in Red Wine (Stiff to)
Beef and Onions in Red Wine is an old-fashioned beef stew recipe. The addition of onions makes it more filling, and the wine gives it a rich flavor.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 lb stewing steak cut into 2.5 cm cubes
- 2 1/3 lb blanched button onions
- 2 crushed cloves of garlic
- 9 oz diced tomato flesh
- 1 bayleaf
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 8 1/2 floz red wine
- 1 1/3 pint beef stock
- 4 tbsp vinegar
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- seasoning
- chopped parsley
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients into a fireproof dish, cover with the lid and cook in the oven at 180°C for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove the meat and onions and strain the cooking liquid, skim off any fat and thicken with diluted cornflour.
- Pour back over the meat and onions and serve sprinkled with chopped parsley.
