Gyudon is a popular dish where rice is topped with beef and onion simmered in a sweet sauce. This recipe is easy to make with ingredients that most people have on hand.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 3 1/2 oz sliced onion
  • 3 1/2 lb thin strips of beef
  • 10 floz water
  • 4 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 2 tbsp ginger juice
  • boiled rice

Instructions

  • Heat 50 ml oil in a wok and stir-fry 100 g sliced onion and 1.5 kg thin strips of beef.
  • Moisten with 300 ml water, 50 ml dark soy sauce, 25 ml mirin and 25 ml ginger juice and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Serve in donburi bowls on a bed of boiled rice.
