  • 4 oz butter or margarine
  • 2 oz demerara sugar
  • 4 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 6 oz rolled oats
  • 2 oz sesame seeds
  • 4 oz dates chopped


  • Base-line and grease a 28 x 18 cm (11 x 7 in) Swiss roll tin.
  • Melt the butter or margarine and sugar in a large saucepan over a low heat, then stir in the remaining ingredients. The mixture should be fairly stiff.
  • Spread the mixture in the prepared tin and bake in a moderate oven for 40 minutes. Cut into 12 equal portions while still hot, and leave to cool in the tin.
  • Muesli flapjacks are delicious and easy. Omit sesame seeds and dates and substitute oats with muesli.
