  • 2 lb small new potatoes
  • 5 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 large cloves of garlic peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper


  • Wash the potatoes thoroughly but do not scrape.
  • Cut them in half, rinse in cold water then dry.
  • Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan over a medium heat and, when hot, put in the potatoes and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until lightly browned.
  • Remove potatoes and keep warm.
  • Put the sesame seeds into the pan and stir, add the garlic and when it is starting to turn brown, add the turmeric, potatoes, salt and cayenne pepper.
  • Stir well, cover and cook gently until the potatoes are tender.
