
Sausage Plait
Ingredients
- 13 oz packet frozen puff pastry defrosted
- beaten egg to glaze
for the filling
- 1 lb sausagemeat
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon chutney
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Roll out the pastry to an oblong measuring 25 cm x 35 cm (10 x 14 in). Mix all the filling ingredients together, season well.
- Arrange the filling down the middle of the pastry. Cut the edges of the pastry diagonally into 2.5 cm (1 in) strips, up to the filling. Fold these strips of pastry over the filling to form a plait, dampening the edges with water in order to hold them in place.
- Brush with a little beaten egg and bake in a moderately hot oven for 40 - 45 minutes. Serve hot or cold, with a salad.
Cook's Tip
- Add 100 g (4 oz) finely diced mature Cheddar cheese to the filling. Continue as above.
