Spiced Mashed Potatoes (Alu Bartha)
Ingredients
- 4 1/2 lb potatoes
- 1 tsp mustard seed
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- 2 sliced fresh green chillies
- 3 1/2 oz chopped onion
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp chilli powder
- 2 1/3 floz lemon juice
Instructions
- Boil 4 1/2 lb potatoes in their skins in salted water, then peel and mash them.
- Fry 1 tsp mustard seed in 2 tbsp oil or ghee, add 2 sliced, fresh green chillies, 3 1/2 oz chopped onion, 1 tsp turmeric, 2 tsp garam masala, 2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp chilli powder and 2 1/3 floz lemon juice.
- Mix into the mashed potato and serve sprinkled with chopped coriander leaves.
