  • 2 oz Stilton cheese
  • 1/4 pint natural low-fat yogurt
  • 4 oz curd cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 ripe dessert pears

for the garnish

  • shredded lettuce leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped chives


  • Mash the Stilton cheese with 1 tablespoon of the yogurt and set aside.
  • Place the curd cheese in a bowl and beat in the remaining yogurt, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Peel, halve and core the pears. Divide the Stilton filling between each cavity.
  • Arrange the lettuce on a serving dish and place the pears, cut side down, on top. Spoon over the yogurt and curd cheese mixture and sprinkle with the chives. Serve the pears chilled.
  • Chives can be grown successfully in a flower pot on a sunny window-sill. The easiest way to chop them is to use a pair of sharp scissors.
