
Chinese Spiced Beef
Ingredients
- 1 lb fillet of beef
- 1 tsp soft brown sugar
- 3 star anise ground
- 1/2 tsp ground fennel
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2.5 cm 1 inch piece fresh root ginger, grated
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsps vegetable oil
- 6 spring onions sliced
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Cut the beef into thin strips 2.5 cm (1 inch) long.
- In a bowl, mix together the sugar, spices and dark soy sauce.
- Put the beef, ginger and salt into the soy sauce mixture and stir well to coat evenly Cover and allow to stand for 20 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan and stir-fry the onions quickly for 1 minute.
- Add the beef and fry, stirring constantly, for 4 minutes, or until the meat is well browned.
- Stir in the soy sauce and black pepper and cook gently for a further 1 minute.
