  • 14 oz Rice Basmati, washed, soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 Cinnamon dalchini, 1 inch stick
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 32 floz Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 Onions sliced, fried


  • Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pan; add the cinnamon stick and sugar. Stir continuously, on low heat, till the sugar caramalizes (ensuring that the sugar does not burn).
  • Add water and salt. Bring the mixture to the boil. Now add the rice and cook covered, on low heat, for about 20 minutes. Serve hot garnished with fried onions.
