
Treacle Cake
Ingredients
- 6 oz butter or margarine
- 6 oz caster sugar
- 3 tablespoons black treacle
- 3 eggs
- 12 oz self raising flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
for the icing
- 2 oz butter or margarine
- 1 tablespoon black treacle
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 8 oz icing sugar sifted
Instructions
- Line and grease a deep 20 cm (8 in) square cake tin.
- Cream the butter or margarine, sugar and treacle together until light and fluffy.
- Gradually beat in the eggs, adding a tablespoon of flour if necessary to prevent the mixture from curdling.
- Carefully fold in the flour and milk.
- Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and bake in a moderate oven for 1 hour or until a metal skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
- Beat all icing ingredients together until smooth. Swirl on cake as shown.
