  • 2 medium eggs
  • 6 tbsp double cream
  • 2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 orange rind finely grated
  • 4 slices thick day-old white bread halved or 2 croissants
  • unsalted butter for frying
  • fruit or fruit compote to serve
  • icing or caster sugar to dust


  • Whisk together the eggs, cream, caster sugar and orange rind and dip the bread in the mixture. Heat the butter in a frying pan and fry the bread until golden on both sides.
  • Serve with fruit or a fruit compote and dust with icing sugar.
