Custard Creams
When you need a recipe for some tasty custard creams, this is the one to try.
Ingredients
- 8 oz butter
- 1 cup caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 1/4 cups plain flour
- 1/2 cup custard powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
for the butter icing
- 1 cup icing sugar sifted
- 2 tablespoons butter softened
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 tablespoons condensed milk
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually beat in the egg and vanilla essence.
- Sift dry ingredients and fold into mixture.
- Break off pieces and roll into small balls.
- Place on ungreased baking trays and press down with a fork.
- Bake in a moderate oven 180-190°C (350-375°F) for 15 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack. When cool, join pairs together with butter icing.

- Gradually beat half the icing sugar into the softened butter, add vanilla essence.
- Beat in condensed milk and add remaining icing sugar.
