When buying a turkey, it's best to obtain a bird that isn't self-basting. It's easy to baste a turkey, you can either wrap it in foil or use a roasting bag. Another excellent way to baste it is to use a large piece of muslin or cheesecloth dipped in melted butter draped over the whole turkey or use the American roast-in-a-bag method which is given in the recipes below.
