Bread and Butter Pudding recipe

ingredients

3-4 thin slices of bread and butter
1/3 cup (50 g) currants or sultanas (golden raisins)
1 tbsp (15 g) caster sugar (superfine granulated)
3/4 pint (400 ml) milk
2 eggs
ground nutmeg

method

1. Cut the bread and butter into strips and arrange, buttered side up, in layers in a greased ovenproof dish, sprinkling the layers with the fruit and sugar.

2. Heat the milk, but do not allow it to boil.

3. Whisk the eggs lightly and pour the milk on to them, stirring all the time. Strain the mixture over the bread,

4. sprinkle some nutmeg on top and let the pudding stand for 1/4 hour.

5. Bake in the oven at 180°C (350°F) mark 4 for 30-40 minutes, until set and lightly browned.

Made it with freshly picked bilberries from the moors above Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. We both fell in bogs upto our thighs amid much sharedlaughter.I have made the puddings for us both. Unfortunately for my friend they are just too good to share so I will tell him I burned them.
Ps. They had better freeze well !!

Thank you, whoever posted this recipe! I can't cook to save my life, but this was the easiest, quickest pudding to make, and it was yummy!
