Quick Fried Ribbons Of Beef

ingredients

serves 2 - 3
8 oz (225 g) rump steak, cut in thin strips
2 tsp (10 ml) five spice powder
1 1/2 tsp cornflour
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp oil
4 oz (125 g) carrots, peeled and cut in strips
4 oz (125 g) celery, trimmed, cut in strips
1 garlic clove, peeled and chopped
8 spring onions, trimmed and sliced diagonally
1 tbsp medium sherry
2 tbsp stock or water

method

1. Combine the beef with the five spice powder, cornflour, sugar and soy sauce and marinate for 45 minutes.

2. Heat the oil in pan and fry carrots and celery, stirring for 2 minutes over high heat.

3. Remove from pan with slotted spoon. Fry beef strips over high heat for 30 seconds, stirring. Add garlic.

4. Return vegetables to pan with remaining ingredients and beef. Bring to the boil, stirring.

5. Garnish and serve with boiled rice.
