1. Heat the oil, add the onion and garlic, and cook until they have just softened but not browned.
2. Add the beef, a little at a time, and brown it well.
3. Drain off any excess fat which may accumulate.
4. Add the spices and salt and stir them in well.
5. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
6. Mix the cornflour with the water to a smooth paste.
7. Add to the meat, together with the yoghurt.
8. Stir well, cover and cook for 25 minutes on a gentle heat.
9. Serve with rice and usual curry accompaniments.
