1. Cover the prunes and apricots with cold water and leave for several hours.
2. Place the fruit in a small saucepan and add 4 tablespoons of water, including the liquid the fruit has been soaking in.
3. Remove the zest from the lemon half with a zester or grater, cover with clingfilm and put in the refrigerator. Squeeze the juice.
4. Add the lemon juice, honey and allspice to the fruit; place over a moderate heat and simmer for 10 - 12 minutes.
5. Spoon the compote into a serving dish and serve hot, warm or chilled.
6. Before'serving, top with the frozen whipped dessert topping and sprinkle with the reserved lemon zest.
