Rum punch

ingredients

makes about 3 litres (5 - 5 1/4 pt).
1.7 litre (3 pt) cold water
450 g (1 lb) sugar
1 lemon
4 oranges
300 ml (1/2 pt) strong tea
300 - 600 ml (1/2 - 1 pt) rum

method

1. Put the water and sugar in a pan with the thinly pared rinds of the lemon and 1 orange.

2. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, bring to the boil and boil for 5 minutes.

3. Remove the pan from the heat and add the juice of the lemon and all the oranges, the tea and the rum.

4. Strain and serve hot or cold.
