1 lettuce, shredded heart of a Savoy cabbage, cored and shredded
2 tomatoes, halved
1 leek, chopped
2 or 3 small onions, chopped
8 oz (225 g) green beans, shredded
2 potatoes, chopped
8 oz (225 g) shelled fresh peas
1/2 stick (4 Tbsp) 2 oz (50 g) butter
1.2 litres (2 pints) water
salt
1 1/4 cup (1/2 pint) 300 ml milk

method
1. Put the lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, leek, onions, beans, potatoes and peas in a saucepan.
2. Add the butter, water and salt and bring to the boil.
