2 medium cooking (tart) apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 cloves
1/4 cup (50 g) 2 oz sugar
1 tablespoon corn flour (corn starch)
2 tablespoons cold water 1 x 18 cm (7 inch) baked
flan case, made from shortcrust pastry
3 oz (75 g) Cheddar cheese, grated
method
1. Put the apples, cloves and sugar in a saucepan and stew gently until the apples are tender. Sieve or blend to a puree.
2. Dissolve the cornflour in the water in the cleaned saucepan, then stir in the apple puree.
3. Bring to the boil, stirring, and cook for 1 minute.
4. Pour the apple mixture into the flan case and sprinkle the cheese on top.
5. Cook under a preheated grill/broiler until the top is golden brown.
