1. Put the onions, tomatoes with their juice, garlic and chilli powder into a saucepan. Bring to the boil, lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, crushing the tomatoes occasionally.
2. Add the peas, tomato puree and pepper to taste. Cook for a further 5 minutes until the peas are just tender, then serve, garnished with thinly sliced onion rings.
