1. Heat the oven to gas mark 4 (180°C) 350°F.
2. Quarter the pears and cut away the cores.
3. Cut them into 1 cm (3/8 in) lenthwise slices.
4. Put the pears into an ovenproof dish, such as a pie dish, and sprinkle them with the sugar and spices.
5. Pour in the apple juice and bake them for 40 minutes or until they are tender when pierced with a fine skewer.
6. Take the dish from the oven and either serve the pears hot or let them cool completely.
7. Serve them in goblets topped with natural yogurt or whipped cream.
