1. Put the sugars, cocoa, milk, vanilla flavouring and butter into a saucepan. Heat gently, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to the boil and boil for 2 minutes without stirring. Cool.
2. Split the bananas lengthwise and sandwich together with ice cream. Whip the fresh cream until stiff.
3. Place the bananas on individual plates and top each with whipped fresh cream. Sprinkle with nuts and put a cherry in the centre of each.
4. Serve immediately. Serve chocolate sauce separately.
