1. Cream together the fat and sugar, and beat in the jam.
2. Mix in the eggs, salt, and breadcrumbs.
3. Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the warm water and stir into the mixture.
4. Put into a buttered 1 litre basin, cover with greased paper or foil, and steam for 3 hours.
5. Leave in the basin for a few minutes, then turn out.
6. Serve with the same warmed jam as used in the recipe.
