1. Peel and slice the bananas. Core and slice the apples. Peel the oranges, remove the pith and cut oranges into segments. Halve the black grapes and remove the pips.
2. Put all the fruit in a bowl with the apple juice.
3. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a gentle heat. Add the spices and honey and mix thoroughly, warming through. Add the fruit salad mixture and the lemon and cook for 8 - 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Remove the lemon and serve the fruit salad immediately with clotted or double cream.
Trim the ends off the orange, stand the fruit on a board, then cut downwards to remove strips of peel and pith all at once.
