Crunchy Fish Pie recipe

Preparation time 15 - 20 minutes, Cooking time 35 - 45 minutes, Oven temperature 190°C, 375°F, gas 5, Calories 725 per portion

ingredients

50 g (2 oz) butter or margarine
50 g (2 oz) plain flour
600 ml (1 pint) milk
salt and pepper
1/4 teaspoon dill weed
198 g (7 oz) can tuna, drained and flaked
100 g (4 oz) peeled, cooked prawns
2 tablespoons lemon juice

For the topping

175 g (6 oz) wholemeal flour
50 g (2 oz) oatmeal
100 g (4 oz) butter
salt and pepper

Garnish

2 whole cooked prawns
parsley sprigs

method

1. Melt the butter or margarine over a low heat, stir in the flour, cook for 2 minutes, then gradually add the milk, stirring all the time. Bring the sauce to the boil, simmer gently for a few minutes. Add the seasoning, dill weed, tuna, prawns and lemon juice. Pour into an ovenproof dish.

2. Place the flour, oatmeal, butter and seasoning in a bowl. Using your fingertips, rub the fat into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

3. Spoon over the fish mixture and bake in a moderately hot oven for 30 - 40 minutes. Serve hot, garnished with whole prawns and parsley.
