Potatoes with Garlic and Sesame

ingredients

serves 6
2 lb (900 g) small new potatoes
5 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp sesame seeds
2 large cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp salt
Pinch of cayenne pepper

method

1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly but do not scrape.

2. Cut them in half, rinse in cold water then dry.

3. Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan over a medium heat and, when hot, put in the potatoes and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until lightly browned.

4. Remove potatoes and keep warm.

5. Put the sesame seeds into the pan and stir, add the garlic and when it is starting to turn brown, add the turmeric, potatoes, salt and cayenne pepper.

6. Stir well, cover and cook gently until the potatoes are tender.
