Apple And Raisin Chutney #2

ingredients

4 lb (1.8 kg) sweet apples
1 lb (455 g) seedless raisins or sultanas
1/2 lb (225 g) chopped nuts
Pinch of ground cloves
1/2 pint (280 ml) brown rice or apple cider vinegar
1 lb (455 g) soft brown sugar (optional) 2 oranges

method

1. Peel, core and chop the apples.

2. Place the apples, raisins, nuts, spice and vinegar in a covered pot and simmer until soft and thoroughly cooked.

3. Add the sugar, and the juice and rind of the oranges, and cook, uncovered, until thick, stirring at least until the sugar is dissolved.

4. Store in jars as described above. This chutney will keep well in a cool, dark cupboard for several months if sugar is used.
