1. Clean and wash the spinach; keep aside.
2. Heat the oil in a pot; add asafoetida, salt, dry red chillies, and water. Cover immediately and wait till the oil stops spattering. Uncover and bring to the boil.
3. Add the spinach followed by sugar; stir well. Cook on high heat for 15 minutes.
4. Add the tikki masala and cook for 5 minutes more, stirring continuously.
5. Serve hot accompanied by steamed rice.
