Timmur
information
Looks like black pepper but is sharp and pungent in taste. It is used mostly in pickles and chutneys. Timmur is a red seed which grows wild on thorny bushes in jungles. In India, it is found in Nainital, Mussourie and in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. The seeds are dried and stored. Fresh seeds are more pungent in taste. Just 5 - 6 grains of timmur are sufficient to add flavour.
