Whole nutmegs are the hard aromatic seeds of an evergreen tree. The spice, which has a sweet, nutty flavour, is widely used all over the world. Whole nutmegs can be grated for cooking, but the ground spice is often used, particularly in the Middle East. Nutmeg can be used in both savoury and sweet dishes.
