Baked Stuffed Marrow

Moira
Sounds good! im gonna try it
Gary
Needed to know how to bake a marrow and for how long, so now am a little bit wiser thank you.
Natalie savage
I have never tried marrow before, so i thought i would give it a go. The stuffed marrow was lovely and looked very fancy, ideal for dinner party. I just used beef mince not sausage meat.
Becky
I have a marrow here waiting for the chop... will try with lamb mince as I dont eat pork or beef mince.... will give it a go but will have a piece of fish on standby for my 7 year old! (fingers crossed)

Buttered Spinach Indian Style

Joan
The instructions say to add in the stock, but there is no quantity in the ingredients list
Trey Adams
Unfortunately there is nothing Indian style about this recipe and it is nothing special. The added ghee content just makes the entire thing unhealthy and heavy in calories.
I strongly disagree about sprinkling garam masala powder after the cooking procedure. The spice powder needs to be cooked and so it has to be added way before (in step 3). And add stock!?!! hmm very odd indeed.
Jaya Varghese
I totally agree. Five tbsp.. of butter is good way to block up your arteries.

Aubergine Salad

Tough - also is one meant to peel first

Potato and Bacon Hotpot

Anne
Make extra as the portion size is a little small and its very moreish
Dan
This was very good. I used good old Lancashire cheese and smoked back bacon. I added two cloves of garlic. In our fan-assisted oven it took 40 minutes at 160‚°C. I agree with the previous comment that it's very moreish - I ate half of it myself at one sitting! Enough here to serve three I think, with another vegetable and/or salad.

German Potato Salad

Kezza in Corrigin
Can anyone tell me what is meant by "Top of Milk"?
Please forgive me for being a typical Aussie bachelor, but I like the sound of German Potato Salad
Frannie57
If you haven't been answered yet it's the top of full fat milk (in the glass bottles it's very clear to see not sure about the plastic ones as I use half fat.

Vegetable Pâté

Mrs V White
Around 20 plus years ago I came across this recipe in a "Double Cream" recipe book, and have made it many times over the years, however six years ago I lost the book and have only now been able to find this recipe on the internet. It is well worth the effort and was enjoyed by one and all.
V White
Delicious recipe and well worth the effort. Takes me back 20 plus years and delighted to have found it again.

Irish Champ

Sue
Hi there

The spring onions should be placed in the milk and gently heated - the spring onion infused milk is then used to add to the mashed potato.

This would then increase the rating I would give from 2 to 8.

Thanks
Sheena
Adding garlic to the milk and onions makes it a 10

Cauliflower and Potato Bake

Cauliflower and Potato Bake
B williams
Really love this dish.simple and quick to prepare, very yummy!!
L. Holmes
Not sure what i did wrong, but it took extra boiled water into the pot (after cooking it for the allotted time and finding the cauliflower raw still) and another 40 mins cooking to soften the cauliflower. Personally i would have half cooked the cauliflower beforehand. But saying that - eventually it was very tasty.

Dauphinoise Potatoes

Annie
Syrely you mean dauphin spuds are the same as boulangere but with cream n'est ce pas?

Potato and Beetroot Pie

Julie
A bit fiddly but really (and surprisingly) tasty. I get stuck with what to do with beetroot and this was a really tasty way to use them. Would go really well with sausages.
Zumblie
A great idea. However, my husband found the sliced beetroot a bit overwhelming in the dish so the next time I diced the beetroot and scattered it over the layers of potato. Also found the onion sauce a bit bland so added a couple of tablespoons of both creme fraiche and creamed horseradish to the onion sauce which gave it more of a bite.

Cheesy aubergine bake

Where does the egg come in, it's not in the ingredients but mentioned in step 5.
Yes it is 5th ingrediant, 1 egg

Cheesy Leeks with Bacon

Blackers
What do you do with the bacon?
3. Thoroughly wash, then wrap each leek in 2 rashers of bacon. Lay in a shallow ovenproof dish.
Aitch
I adapted the recipe slightly and used chopped bacon which I fried first and then mixed in with the sauce before spreading over the leeks. So simple to prepare and the kids loved it as well - an easy way to feed them some veggies!

I used bacon instead of parma ham and added some greated garlic and chopped mushrooms. Also I used smoked cheddar and it was fine. Served with young boiled potatoes.
Grace Richardson Bronx, NY
Instead of whole brussel sprout, I removed the leaves sort of like lettece of cabbage and it was great. I do not like brussel sprout but this was delicious

Boiled Celeriac (Celeri-rave Nature)

BARBARA
PRESUMABLY BLANC PREPARATION IS A POSH WAY OF SAYING BOILING WATER!!!

Blanc Preparation

Place 50 g flour into a basin, whisk in 2.5 litres cold water, then strain into a deep pan, add the juice of 2 lemons and salt and bring to the boil.

The food, e.g. calfs' feet, Jerusalem artichokes, is added covered with a muslin during cooking.

Celeriac with Cream Sauce

Cameron
This tastes just like potato dauphinoise, which I love. Without the carbohydrates! I skipped the vermouth though and added a little sprinkle of nutmeg and black pepper, which worked well for me.

Potato and Herb Salad

Jason woodard
It wasn't a good choice for a potato salad. although I had tried to make it into a mashed potato, which turned out terrific.

Chinese Special Fried Rice

Chin
How to cook rice without measuring how much water or how many cup of rice in the measuring cup. This is too sciencetific.

There is a simple way.
Now you can cast your measurement cup away. Professional cook do not use measurement. It's a waste of time and safe you from washing your dishes.

1) put rice inside your cooking pot
2) pull lots of cold water into the pot with rice and start to squeez the starch out of the rice in the pot. Then drain it. Repeat over again about 2 or 3 times until you hardly see any milky liquid in the rice. You know it's ready.

3) pull cold water over the rice about an inch(just picture water cover your finger nail) Remember do not over drown your rice otherwise you get gluey and sticky rice.

4) put your rice pot on the stove with lid on and turn on high heat. keep an eye on the pot, as soon as the water in to pot start boiling, sim it right away, as low heat as possible. 15-20 minutes later you get perfect non stick rice.

Remember the more water you put in the pot the rice become sticky. Make sure you rinse the rice in cold water several times. It's the starch and the more water put, the rice become gluey or sticky.

Spaghetti With Aubergines

Madge
Excellent! I had two aubergines (an not much more in the fridge) and was wondering what to do with them. Had to use ready made tomato sauce and use parsley instead of basil. At the end when all was getting heated in the wok I added some broth to make it more floating (had no wine..) and the outcome is fabulous! The cheese melted into tomato sauce, aubergines are tender and delicious. And it took me about 30 mins to prepare. Thanks for the idea!

Mooli, Beetroot and Carrot Stir-fry

Val
Would love to try this recipe, but what is Mooli?
Answer
A long white Japanese vegetable of the radish family, also known as daikon. It's crunchy, with a mild peppery flavour, similar to watercress. Unlike other radishes it's as good cooked as it is raw. In Chinese and Japanese cookery it's used for vegetable carving as well as cooking. Mooli is sometimes available in larger supermarkets, but you're more likely to find it in Asian or Caribbean food shops.

Young Marrows au Gratin

Gypsy
Can marrows be frozen

Answer. No, too high a water content, will turn to mush when defrosted.

Glazed Carrots with Lemon (Havu§. Plakisi)

Meltem
How could this recipe be Greek if the name is Turkish?

Broad Beans With Prosciutto

Howard Leech
Where I am working at present, Prosciutto is difficult to find.
However, I substituted this with a thick piece of smoked bacon cut into chunks and cooked with the olive oil, garlic and onion.
The thick smoked bacon has to be cooked a little longer
As per the recipe I then added the chicken stock and the braod beans.
The result was extraordinary and I repeated this receipe again but for guests.
Again, everyone commented on how god this dish was.

Cabbage Salad

Carly

Spinach Potato Wedges

A few things, I put in bacon instead of salami and halved the spinach because that was all I had. It's hearty all by itself, but could easily be made into a nice sidedish. The only reason I gave it an 8 is because I did alter the recipe. Enjoy!!

Thakkali Rasam (Indian Tomato soup)

Zahra Khan
I think Rasam also has tamarind in it which makes it taste sharper.

Runner Bean Goulash

Jooles Barr
This was a delicious and quick recipe to make. It will become a regular during runner bean season. The only change I made was to add a touch of chilli - just for personal taste - I like my food to kick. It also kept really well, so leftovers the next day were no problem.
